Departures From Japan

Jeff Shapiro (b. 1949, NY) studied ceramic arts while living in Japan. His work has been exhibited internationally in Germany, France, Italy, Australia, Canada and Japan. His work can be found in numerous museum collections including The Sevre Museum, Paris, France; The Carlo Zauli Museum, Faenza, Italy; The Massachusetts Museum of Fine Art, Boston MA; The Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn, NY; The Everson Museum, Syracuse, NY; and The Fuller Museum, Brockton, MA. He has given workshops and seminars in many countries around the world, and has built 2 wood fire kilns in Italy. This is one of his four solo/ two person shows at Lacoste Gallery. He has curated in numerous important ceramic exhibitions for us and in conjuction with the Museum of Fine Arts Boston and Harvard Ceramics.

The exhibition will showcase the direction that Shapiro has taken in using clay as the medium for sculpture, as well as displaying some of his more vessel oriented work such as tea bowls, sake cups, bottles, and the evolution of his large platter forms.
